Enforcing Prescription Rules in Mexico

Tougher rules to ensure prescription (Rx) to buy antibiotics

Miguel Toscano, director of Mexico's federal commission on product safety, announced that the rules requiring prescriptions for Antibiotic’s will be enforced starting Wednesday, 1 September 2010. Said actions are expected to affect (MACO) Mexicans, Americans, Canadians and Other’s! (What do you need penicillin for any way? Oh, sorry I ask)!

It was announced in March that new procedures would be imposed to crack down on the practice as a way to address the growing problem of drug-resistant infections from overuse of antibiotics, as the Health Department estimated that half the Mexican population, self-medicate without checking with a doctor, or even the Clinic. And the over use of antibiotics is the reason given for the action.

This is not a new rule, rather it’s the enforcement of the actual rules that have always been on the books.

It’s the enforcement procedures that will be new and improved That means we can expect Narc’s to be around every corner. And when you pull out your purchase in the restaurant to admire it, and think about that savings, may we say “Smile your on Narc Video”!

Reportedly prescriptions will be required from a doctor on all drugs from this day forth.

Knowing the area well, My personal licensed Mexican family medical practitioner also is the Person in Charge of the Adjacent Pharmacy. So I’m sure that such a convenient connection would not delay things. And similar situations are found throughout the town and country side.

Mexican authorities have begun tougher enforcement of the rules designed to ensure that people have a doctor's prescription to buy antibiotics. It has long been common practice in Mexico for pharmacies to supply antibiotics to anyone who asks for them even though the law requires a prescription.

Los Algodones B.C. Mexico, will be affected. To what extend is unknown at this time. But Presumed prescriptions are and will be available for a small fee.
