Yuma's Outdoor Marketplace Forecloses

YUMA, AZ - A security guard roams the parking lot at Yuma's Outdoor Marketplace to keep anyone off the property including the owner, according to the security guard on duty.

Friday evening News 13 went over to the market place, which is closing down for the season and not planning to reopen at the present location. There, the security guard told us the property foreclosed and the bank took over. He says Southwest Management became in charge and they were hired by the bank to watch the property because the previous owner threatened to harm the property.

Early Friday News 13 talked to the owner Dan Dinwiddie who had the market place sign outside the property lit up asking for the recall of Yuma's Mayor Al Krieger, that sign was turned off later that evening.

Dinwiddie told us he is forming a recall committee against Mayor Krieger. He says for the past year he's been investigating what he calls unfair business practices against him and is taking it to the attorney generals office in phoenix. Dinwiddie says the city has targeted him forcing him into chapter 11.

Prior to the sign about the mayor's recall, the market place had another sign asking the public to boycott two local doctors.

Dinwiddie says they unfairly were able to secure the bank note on the property. He says a restraining order forced him to take his first message down and he will fight that order.

We tried contacting the owner again Friday night for comment about the current situation, but he was not available.

Man Runs from Police

Yuma, AZ-Yuma Police Department said a traffic stop was made in the area of 8E and 32nd street around 6:30 p.m.

Police said the man ran out of his vehicle and went into the Sun Vista RV resort.

They said the suspect, who has not been identified yet, has a warrant for his arrest.

Yuma police with the aid of U.S. Border Patrol and the Yuma County Sheriff's Office blocked off the RV park.

Authorities patrolled outside scene prohibiting anyone from entering and inspected cars leaving for security purposes.

A helicopter was also called in and circled the area to help find the suspect.

Yuma, AZ - The United States Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment filled the field at the Marine Air Corps Station in Yuma wowing crowds with their sequences.

"Getting to put on the uniform and see the smiles on not only veterans but even children who can't even walk and seeing them smile and clapping gets me going," says Sergeant Lauren Schoener with the Drum and Bugle Corps.

The Battle Color Detachment is a ceremonial unit from Washington D.C. made up of the Drum and Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill Platoon and Color Guard. Each year this highly skilled unit travels worldwide to demonstrate the discipline and professionalism of the United States Marines.

Although the performances are seamless, they don't come easy according to Carlton Williams who is a part of the Silent Drill Platoon.

"We practice a lot. Roughly between 8 and 12 hours a day, that's in our school from November to February and during normal days we practice about 3 hours a day," says Williams.

In addition to this event, Marine Aircraft Group 13 celebrated their 70th anniversary.

During this celebration they named a room in honor of Col. Fred Cone who is a Vietnam Veteran and recipient of a Navy Cross Medal.

This medal is the second highest one can be awarded in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

"I didn't ever think anything like this would ever happen to Fred Cone the Marine. But it did and I feel very honored and humbled that the group commander and the Marines have chosen to name a room after me. I know they had a lot of choices they could have made from and a lot of very important people," say Col. Cone.

Col. Cone worked as a Marine for 30 years and says he enjoyed serving our country.
