best hotel occupancy in Acapulco in a decade

Mexico Secretary of Tourism reports best hotel occupancy in Acapulco in a decade

the office of the Secretary of Tourism recently reported that Acapulco has had the best hotel occupancy (97%) level in 10 years, following the 2012 holiday season. The information was reported along with results from the other Sun Triangle destinations, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Taxco, which also experienced high occupancy levels.
"The State of Guerrero has invested millions of dollars into tourism infrastructure, new programs, renovation and rehabilitation programs, and a new tourism initiative focused on the Sun Triangle destinations," said Javier Aluni, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guerrero. "We believe this strong investment from the State directly contributed to the increased hotel occupancy levels throughout Guerrero this holiday season and we hope to see this trend continue throughout 2013."
Hotel occupancy level for the destination as a whole was 97% in Acapulco; the glamorous Diamante Zone reported a 98% hotel occupancy level for the holiday week while the iconic Golden and Traditional Zones reported occupancy levels of 98% and 90% respectively. Ixtapa reported a hotel occupancy level of 92% for the same time period while Zihuatanejo boasted 90.5% and the "Magical Town" of Taxco reported 79%.
The report predicted that 2013 could be a banner year for Acapulco and for the State of Guerrero as a whole, with a wide array of events planned for the Sun-Triangle destinations, including the Mexico Tennis Open in Acapulco, which international tennis star Rafael Nadal is scheduled to participate in (March 1-3, 2013). The year will bring a variety of culinary festivals, special events, concerts, art and culture exhibits, sporting events and much more to the Sun-Triangle destinations.
