Ca. Veterans Day 2011

Veterans Day 2011

November marks the beginning of yet another holiday season. Most of us will share these days at home with family and friends - enjoying time off from work. As a veteran myself, I can't help but think of our deployed military personnel who will continue their daily routine while we celebrate. These troops dedicate themselves year round - holidays or not - to defending our country.

November 11, 1918 is a day in history known for the celebration of peace. On that historic date, at the eleventh hour, guns were silenced and the great world powers signed the treaty to end the war "that would end all wars." Today, at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we continue to honor, not only the veterans of the "Great War" but all of the men and women who have served America in times of war.

According to the US Census Bureau, there are more than 22 million veterans are living in the United States. Over 120,000 Californians are currently on active duty in the U.S military. Our American troops continue, on a daily basis, to risk their lives and protect our independence.

This Veterans Day, I invite you to honor the brave men and women of our United States Military - those that served those fought for our freedoms in years past and those that continue to put their lives on the line to protect our nation.
