In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed into law the recognition of National Grandparents Day as the first Sunday after Labor Day. Since then, it has become a special time for grandparents to tell grandchildren how cherished they are, and for grandkids to show their appreciation of the special role Grandma and Grandpa play in their lives.
